MCMC, Police College ink MoU focusing on cyber security and substance abuse

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Royal Malaysian Police College today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on strategic cooperation on cyber security and substance abuse prevention.

Through the MoU, the police will work with MCMC in initiatives related to investigation and enforcement, including the development of a syllabus.

The MoU provides expertise, comprising MCMC officers and police officers as lecturers for training and research, along with cross-functional placements for officers of both agencies.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the collaboration would strengthen the development of talent, especially in the communication and multimedia industry.

The MoU was signed by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain and MCMC chairman Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din.

It was witnessed by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Fahmi.

The MoU was signed at the Police Special Dialogue.

Razarudin, in his speech, said the college would function as a centre for research and training in cyber security and substance abuse prevention.

"This will position Malaysia as a pioneer in combating these threats at a regional level."

He said cybercrime had emerged as a grave threat demanding great attention.

"Cybercrime extends beyond technical considerations. It presents substantial risk to the safety, privacy and welfare of individuals and society.

"Being a law enforcement agency, the police bear a significant responsibility in protecting the public from crime, including cybercrime and substance abuse.

"We remain resolute in increasing our capacity to investigate, prevent and address cybercrimes."

Present at the event were Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Mustapha @ Mohd Yunus Sakmud and Deputy Inspector General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.
