PETALING JAYA: The phone and SIM card linked to the social media account that spread a viral video has been seized by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

In a statement on Saturday (April 13), MCMC said the administrator of the MyNewsHub account was called in to record a statement at 8.40pm on Friday (April 12).

MCMC said the statement was taken over an old video clip uploaded with a caption that caused confusion among social media users,.

"On completion, investigation papers will be submitted to the Attorney General's Chambers for further instructions," it said.

The said video showed a "civil servant" being forcefully escorted by police after asking a question during a forum with Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali.

MCMC reminded Internet users that uploading content with intent to hurt feelings or disturb others is an offence.

"The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which provides for a maximum fine of RM50,000 or imprisonment for up to one year, or both upon conviction," it added.
