YBrs. Prof Dr. Tharek plays a key role in developing 5G Malaysia initiatives. He connects the academia and the industry, forming effective collaborations and partnerships. This includes the engagements with Japan's 5G Mobile Communications Promotion Forum (5G MF) and Korea's 5G Forum, which promotes knowledge transfer and the collaboration in 5G research and development.
Harme Mohamed is a highly skilled telecommunications professional with extensive experience spanning over 24 years in telecommunications policy, technical expertise, and international relations. As the current Head of Network Security Division at the MCMC, Harme oversees multiple operational departments responsible for a range of critical functions, including awareness and advocacy, standards development, incident management, capacity building, online content regulation, and technical support for enforcement activities. He is currently collaborating closely with industry stakeholders to ensure network security and resilience for the deployment of 5G in Malaysia. Harme has been with the MCMC since September 1999, when he began his career in the IT Department, gaining valuable experience in a communications regulatory environment. In addition to this, he has also been a part of the negotiation team for Malaysia in the World Trade Organization (WTO) for the telecommunications sector, computer-related services, postal and courier sector, as well as other Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and Closer Economic Partnership Agreements. From 2017 to 2020, Harme served as the Director of Cyber Security Technology Division at the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA), where he demonstrated his ability to stay abreast of the ever-changing threat landscape and assess the impact of emerging technologies on Malaysia's cyber security. During his tenure, he played a key role in developing the Malaysia Cyber Security Strategy 2020-2024, which aimed to establish a framework for enhancing the country's cyber security posture. Harme holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Indiana University, Bloomington.
Tuan Syed Khairulazrin is an accomplished and experienced professional with over 20 years of experience and invaluable knowledge in Malaysia's communications landscape, and he continues to play a critical role in shaping the future of radio spectrum usage in the country. Having served the Commission for the last 19 years at the MCMC, where he currently serves as the Head of the Spectrum Planning and Assignment Division, he is responsible for overseeing the management of spectrum in Malaysia to ensure the highly valuable national resource is well managed and efficiently used, aligned with the National Policy Objectives. Throughout his time at MCMC, he has served the Commission and represented Malaysia in various capacities, including in the areas of policy development, management of spectrum including planning, coordination, assignment as well as monitoring of spectrum. He has also made significant contributions to high-level policy-making matters, including forging strategic initiatives in encouraging the adoption of new technologies to facilitate the evolution of the industry, in both the terrestrial and space segments through his participation in local, regional and international fora such as meetings, conferences and forums organized by the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) and the International Telecommunication Union. Tuan Syed has a strong educational background, having earned a Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) and an MBA in Strategic Management from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). He has also been recognized for his expertise in the field, having been awarded the title of Professional Technologist by the Malaysia Board of Technologists.
Mohammed Hakim Othman is currently heading the Technology Development Department in the MCMC and has been with the Commission for more than 19 years. He has vast experience in technical regulation and currently overseeing technology development including in sustainable and emerging technology and future networks. He is also currently the Chair of the Ministry of Health (MoH) Inter-Agency Working Committee(IAWC) RF-EMF Work Group and Technical Committee on Smart Cities ICT Infrastructure Work Group NSC27/TC/2 under the Department of Standards. His previous employment was with Ericsson Malaysia. Hakim holds a BSc Degree in Electrical Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo, USA and Masters in Business Administration(MBA) from University of Wales, Cardiff, United Kingdom.
