The Awareness Seminar on
Telecommunication Standards &
Practices was held at SKMMon 11
August 2009.
The seminar was jointly spon-
sored by SKMM and Standards
Malaysia with support the Malay-
sian Technical Standards Forum
Berhad (MTSFB).
The event which SIRIM Berhad
helped to organise was held with
the intention to provide an over-
view of the standardisation
activities on IT-Interconnection,
Communications and System
Information conducted by the
Technical Committee-12 of the
Industry
Standards
Committee-G.
The seminar highlighted the
standards and new technologies
including current practices and
challenges under the three main
themes i.e. Internet Services,
Communications, as well as
Broadcasting in a convergence
world. The seminar aimed at the
creation of awareness on stan-
dards pertaining to the above
mentioned activities as well as
promotion
of
Malaysian
(indigenous) standards on IPv6
and NGN which has been
promoted via MTSFB. It also
highlighted new technologies
and standards for wireless
broadband, digital home and
digital broadcasting.

The seminar further provided a platform for interaction amongst the
stakeholders, knowledge sharing as well as being updated on the
latest development in this eld. The event was very well received
noting the high level of participation by people from various entities,
including members of the Industry Standards Committee-G from the
communications and multimedia industry.
Technical standards development promoting interoperability and
safety are governed under the provisions on technical regulation, part
VII (Chapter III) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. It
also provided for SKMM to appoint certi cation agencies for purposes
of certifying compliance to standards.

PROHIBITION ON PROVISION OF OFFENSIVE CONTENT.
SECTION 211
(1) No content applications service provider, or other person using
a content applications service, shall provide content which is
indecent, obscene, false, menacing, or o ensive in character with
intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any person.
(2) A person who contravenes subsection (1) commits an o ence
and shall, on conviction, be liable to a ne not exceeding fty
thousand ringgit or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one
year or to both and shall also be liable to a further ne of one
thousand ringgit for every day or part of a day during which the
o ence is continued after conviction.
