MELAKA: The Keluarga Malaysia Digital Economy Centre initiative (PEDi) continues to be one of the platforms that support entrepreneurs in Melaka to generate income through e-commerce and improve their living standards.

A frozen food entrepreneur Nabihah Karim said the exposure she received through the Klebang Besar PEDi has helped her to raise sales from RM500,000 to RM1 million.

She told Bernama that the market for her frozen food products and other sweet delicacies has expanded to Singapore.

Nabihah said she experienced many changes since utilising PEDi as a learning platform, especially related to her knowledge about online marketing and ways to increase sales.

Meanwhile, Klebang Besar PEDi coordinator Natasya Alia A. Rumzi said the platform had assisted entrepreneurs in several villages such as Pulau Gadong, Kampung Permatang, Balik Buloh, Bertam Perdana, Cheng and Jalan Pulau Gadong to grow their businesses and products digitally through the Digital Partner (RD) initiative.

She said for example entrepreneurs were assisted to register their businesses through a webinar programme in collaboration with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM).

"Free classes on e-commerce are also seen to have improved their business knowledge while live programmes on social media provide them the opportunities to market their products more widely," she said.

The RD for Klebang Besar PEDi, Hamizah Mohamed Razalli said she would continue to help local entrepreneurs to be technologically literate and improve their capability in using the e-commerce platform.

"Here, there are 10 active entrepreneurs who run various businesses such as food, sewing services and gift services and we will continue to guide entrepreneurs, especially the elderly and those who are not tech savvy," she said.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Corporate Communications Department of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said that based on the positive feedback, the agency would add nine new PEDi in Melaka next year, thus bringing the total number of PEDi in the state to 39.

"Between 2017 and Sept 2022, the number of visitors to PEDi in Melaka reached almost 40,000 people and a total of 908 entrepreneurs were assisted to conduct online business.

"This proves that the initiative has succeeded in providing a platform to help entrepreneurs undergo various training related to technology and entrepreneurship as well as obtain guidance in taking their business online," the source said.
