SABAH & SARAWAK TO TRANSITION TO THE MYFREEVIEW DIGITAL TV TRANSMISSION BEGINNING 31 OCTOBER 2019
  • The historic cessation of the analogue TV transmission to the myFreeview digital TV transmission will be held in Sabah and Sarawak on the night of 31 October 2019, marking the end of analogue TV transmission in Malaysia, which have been provided for free since 1963
  • MCMC and MYTV continues its efforts to ensure that residents in Sabah and Sarawak are ready for the transition 
 
CYBERJAYA, 25 October 2019 --- Sabah and Sarawak will be transitioning to the myFreeview digital TV transmission from the terrestrial analogue TV transmission beginning 31 October 2019, and this would mark the end of analogue TV transmission throughout Malaysia, which have been provided free-of-charge since 1963.  
 
With the final phase of this switchover, the whole country would be fully transitioned to the myFreeview digital TV transmission following the switchover in the Central, Southern, Northern and Eastern regions; which were done in phases beginning 30 September 2019.      Various efforts such as announcing the transition through Public Service Announcements, talk shows on TV and radio, distributing pamphlets at public places and housing areas, Internet centres, as well as information displayed on TV screens have been carried out by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and MYTV to ensure that residents in Sabah and Sarawak are ready for the transition. MCMC together with MYTV will continue to monitor the development and go on location to ensure a smooth transition process. 
 
The myFreeview digital TV transmission provides sharper images, high quality sound and interactive TV services that will spur future economic, social and educational needs of the country and its people. Viewers can also enjoy a myriad of TV channels, radio and new applications such as online shopping, interactive learning and more via 15 TV channels and six (6) radio channels including TV1, TV2, TV3, NTV7, 8TV, TV9, TV Al Hijrah, dan Bernama News Channel (BNC).   
 
For those who have yet to transition to the myFreeview digital TV platform, you are encouraged to do so by following these steps: 

a) Fix your Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) or Direct to Home (DTH) to an existing TV set with an outdoor ultra-high frequency (UHF) antenna (recommended) or an indoor UHF antenna.  
b) You may also connect the UHF antenna to an Integrated Digital TV (IDTV) with a DTTV label that comes with a decoder, or  
c) Get a DTH decoder with its accessories if you are within the DTH coverage area. There are various models to choose from, which can be purchased from the myfreeview.tv website.

Free decoders are also being distributed to 2 million registered B40 households with low income all over the country. They have the following options to check their eligibility for the free decoders: 
 
i) Type MYTV (space) DEKODER (space) (IC number) and SMS to 15888

iii) Call myFreeview’s Customer Service Centre at 1-*********** or 1800-18-1088
