MCMC to meet Astro on repair charge

05 Mar 2007, Daily Express
Kuala Lumpur: The Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will meet Astro management soon to discuss a charge allegedly imposed on its subscribers for fixing reception problems. MCMC chairman MCMC Datuk Halim Shafie said Astro was not supposed to charge RM50 on subscribers for the service to reconnect transmission which had been interrupted following the use of a new satellite from Feb 2. "The problem is not caused by the subscribers but by Astro when it shifts transmission from Measat-1 to Measat-3. Therefore, any problem must be borne by Astro," he told Bernama here Sunday. "I have instructed my officers to meet them as soon as possible to inform them on the MCMC's stance," he added but did not say whether Astro would be asked to refund subscribers who had made the payment. Yesterday, Energy, Water and Communications Minister Datuk Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik said it was inappropriate for the Astro to charge subscribers for fixing reception problems following the use of a new satellite. - Bernama
