How to track Spammers
This page contains information to help you track spammers on your own. Junk email messages often include a link to a website, with the intention of direct people to websites that advertise a variety of products and services. If there is a link to a website, you can probably find information of the owner of the website. You can choose to either complain to the website owner or report them to Internet Service Providers. Some guides: Visit the Site – Although you may be reluctant to visit the sites provided in junk e-mail messages, this is one way to track down the source of an unwanted e-mail solicitation. There are, however, pros and cons to this method.
“Whois” Search – This is another method of finding contact information without having to visit any questionable websites. Web addresses or domain names need to be registered and the process of registration requires the website owners to provide contact information of the company the web address belongs to. Several companies provide this registration information on domain names, including www.godaddy.com, www.tucows.com, www.netsol.com and www.samspade.com among others. A link in these sites called “whois” will facilitate your search of the domain name listed in the spam email and will be able to provide the contact information at the time the domain name was registered. Do keep in mind, however, that some information provided by the registrants may not be genuine contact information. |
