The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia
Commission is actively involved in international meetings and activities which focus
on convergence through:
- Cooperation and information exchange among
regulators;
- Resource allocation and management;
- Standards; and
- Trade (e.g. network security, tariffs,
accounting rates and e-commerce).
These include regional preparatory meetings for global conferences and other activities
which focus on Malaysia’s and the region’s requirements.
Another aspect of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission's international
activities is organising and hosting attachments and similar working visits by its
counterparts in other countries. In return, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia
Commission participates in bilateral meetings and negotiations, and initiates working
visits to enhance relations with other regulators.
International Platforms
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission's participates in activities
centred around the following international platforms:
a. UN Agencies
;
b. Regional/ Special groupings;
c. Border Co-ordination;
d. Inter-Governmental Organisations; and
e. Bilateral co-operation.
Spectrum Co-ordination
Co-ordination of spectrum and frequencies is a major activity on the Malaysian
Communications and Multimedia Commission's international calendar. Much of this work
is done in coordination with Malaysia’s neighbouring countries (coordinating usage
of frequencies along common borders) or with other country administrations in relation
to intersystem satellite coordination.
In February 2002, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission established
the Malaysian National Preparatory Working Group (NPWG) for the World Radiocommunication Conference 2003
(WRC). The NPWG provides a platform for the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia
Commission to jointly address issues on radio spectrum allocation, assignment and
regulation with industry and other Government agencies
