The Ministry of Information, Communication, and Culture was set up with the objective to ensure that effective dissemination of government's messages through the electronic media, face-to-face communications and filmmaking activities, in line with the government's philosophy, policy and programmes to enhance public understanding and involvement with government's activities. The ministry is responsible for the policy and strategic planning of the communications industry, coordinating its implementation and monitoring industry performance. .

The Communications and Multimedia Consumer Forum of Malaysia is one of the four fora set up in line with the requirements of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) 1998 to establish Malaysia as a major global centre and hub for communications and multimedia. It was set up in February 2001 to establish standards and guidelines for the communications and multimedia industry.

The Communications and Multimedia Content Forum of Malaysia was established in February 2001 to govern content and address content related issues disseminated by way of electronic networked medium. The Forum will act as the mechanism to formulate and implement developed codes of practice for the communications and multimedia industry.

The Malaysian Technical Standards Forum Berhad (MTSFB) is responsible for the establishment and maintenance of the standards, technical codes, network interoperability and operation issues

The Multimedia Development Corporation was established by the Malaysian Government as the agency to spearhead the development and implementation of the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC), and to facilitate applications to re-locate to, within, the MSC by multinational and local companies.

The International Telecommunication Union was founded on the principle of cooperation between governments and the private sector, with memberships encompassing telecommunications policy-makers and regulators, network operators, equipment manufacturers, hardware and software developers, regional standards-making organisations and financing institutions.

The Asia-Pacific Telecommunity is a unique organization of Governments, telecom service providers, manufactures of communication equipment, research & development organizations and other stake holders active in the field of communication and information technology. APT serves as the focal organization for communication and information technology in the Asia Pacific region.

The Ministry of Home Affairs Malaysia is responsible for Film Controls in Malaysia.
